This is a trick that really changes the way a jar sauce looks and tastes, for the better.
1/2lb lean ground beef, optional
1/2 cup diced onion
1 large carrot, grated
1 clove garlic, minced
2tsp dried Italian seasoning
1 can (17oz) petite diced tomatoes
1T extra virgin olive oil
1 jar (20-28oz size usually) tomato based pasta sauce
If using the ground beef, omit the oil.
Brown the ground beef with the carrot, onion and garlic OR
saute the carrot, onion and garlic in the oil until fragrant and the onion starts to soften.
Add the canned tomatoes, sauce and seasoning and simmer for 30 minutes over very low heat.
